What this is About…
Dear Momma,
Today I’m reflecting on taking one step at a time. One. step. at. a. time.
As I share and invite you into this motherhood journey, equipping ourselves, our daughters, and our households with putting God at the center of it all, I want you to know that in sitting in this space, it in no way shape or form means my girls or your girls will be perfect, or anything close to it. They will never be and that is not the goal. It’s impossible. Who would want that anyway?
The goal is that our daughters know who and whose they are. The goal is that you know who and whose you are. The goal is that if and/or when they/we might be in a situation or season where we are forgetting this, we remember quickly that we can go to Ephesians and be reminded very quickly of who we are. If there is a season where any of us forgets where we come from, we can pick up our family history book and review the genealogy of our bloodline through Jesus Christ. I want our girls to remember quickly their family genealogy from the Word of God, starting with the Creation story in Genesis. That’s HER story. That’s YOUR story. That’s MY story. I hope and pray that if and when the girls need inspiration and someone to relate to, they can open up to the story of Paul, someone who God completely transformed. His story showed how ugly humans can be before and it also shows how nothing is impossible with God. God is in the business of redemption.
The goal is that our daughters look to Daniel’s story when he was a young boy and they are reminded of how he was the only one to stand up to the Philistine Goliath, when nobody else would. If he hadn’t, an entire Philistine nation could have been ruling over Israel. I hope they remember that their age isn’t something that can hold them back, especially in terms of our God’s Kingdom. I pray that they remember to look at the life of John the Baptist to be reminded of what a life looks like pointing people to Jesus. I pray that our girls look to Jesus’ life so they can have a clear picture of who our God is and how he operates. What does it mean to be brave? What are the natural consequences that come with that? Positive or negative.
I want our daughters to be rooted in Truth. I want them to know that the world is going to tell them lies and is going to try its best to conform each of us to the ways of the world. I want our daughters to know they are IN but not OF this world. I want our girls to know that no matter what the world might say, what God says about them is Truth. I want them to know the plan God has for each of them was created before the beginning of time. I want our girls to know they are NOT perfect, yet God created them perfectly. The God of the universe sees us through Jesus Christ and what He did on the Cross. There is no greater love.
I want our daughters to know that as they grow up, they will make mistakes. There will be things that happen they wish they would’ve maybe said or done differently and they might have things they regret. They might fall down or have a tough time with something at some point in life. I’ve been that girl many times. So, equipping our girls with a strong foundation of Truth, foundation of Hope and Life is what I want our girls to fall back onto. I want our girls to fall back to the Lord, their family and Church family.
This is not a call for perfect girls.
This is not a call for perfect mommas.
This is not a call for perfect households.
There’s no such thing.
I’m not calling for unrealistic.
I’m calling for intentionality.
I’m calling for equipping our girls, our mommas and our households like Paul writes about in Ephesians.
I’m calling for creating a home where there’s love and grace for growing up imperfectly and grounded in the Word.
I’m calling for creating habits that will show our girls how to walk with the Lord, not just on Sunday’s at church, but everyday.
I’m calling for busy households, just like mine, to look at the family calendar and make sure the God of the universe is reflected.
I’m calling for making time for connection with the Holy Spirit to activate what God has in store for us right now.
I’m calling for the Church to activate our God-given Power and Authority through the Holy Spirit within our homes and spheres of influence, together.
I’m calling for Kingdom thinking, knowing we are on this earth but only for a short while, and it’s all preparation for what is to come.
As I’m navigating this space of growth with you, this is about empowering and equipping. It’s about sharing and inviting. It’s about not only being prayer warrior mommas, but about taking action in the name of Jesus and our girls knowing they have that power, too. This is about knowing there is power in the Word of God. We need to know this. There is power in the Blood of Jesus Christ and simply saying His name. There’s power in worship and when we step into this with the Lord, the enemy flees. So, when things get hard, worship music comes on immediately and we start praising Jesus just like Daniel did when Saul was being attacked.
This life is beautiful and messy. It’s hard and can be ugly, too. Remember: God is with you, me, and our girls and His love is greater. We have to seek Him and teach our girls to do the same. It’s easy to live life and just let life happen, but how are we intentionally equipping ourselves and our young ladies to walk with the Lord? I’m not talkin just on Sunday’s. Sunday’s are important. Spending time with our Church family is important, especially the other six days of the week.
When our girls fall, our girls need to know they’re falling in the Lord’s hands and He will pick them back up. No matter what.
Think about it. When a young lady is raised with this Truth, it impacts generations to come. Walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit doesn’t happen by accident. It happens a step at a time, and when we walk with Him, it changes lives, families, households and generations to come.
Take care of yourself momma and take care of those beautiful girls,
Kassie Leigh
